About Eyes of Faith

Eyes of Faith, based in Austin, Texas, is a citywide Christian interdenominational photography group. Our members include persons from numerous churches in the Austin area.

We are open to all photographers regardless of their skill level who are interested in growing in their photography abilities, enjoying fellowship with others who enjoy the art of photography, and are interested in using their gifts as an expression of their faith and in Christian service.

Download the Eyes of Faith Brochure (PDF). Our newest tool will help you tell people about Eyes of Faith! The tri-fold brochure in vivid color showcases our traveling exhibit and explains how an organization (church, school, business, library, etc.) can arrange to schedule it to be at their location at a time when they can share it with members, visitors, patrons or other people who might enjoy these expressions of faith. The brochure also explains the purpose of Eyes of Faith, tells a little bit about what meetings are like, and encourages people to visit, refer friends who might be interested, or become members themselves. Our website URL is listed along with important EOF contact phone numbers. If you will be printing out the brochure, you will need to make a "double-sided" print, with the outside page on one side and the inside page on the other.

2008 Coordinators

We have shifted the organization for 2008 to be more freeform. Therefore, there are no official "coordinators" this year.

Mission Statement

"Our mission is to grow as photographers, inspiring and challenging each other to see the world through the eyes of faith."

The key to taking great photographs is not found in just knowing the technical aspects of the science/art of photography, though that helps. The real way to take great photographs is found in three words in our mission statement "see the world".

Great photography is about being aware of the world around us. How we "see the world" is the key. The more sensitive you are to what is happening around you, keeping your eyes open to different views, paying attention to the seemingly small stuff, having patience to wait for the right moment, you will indeed become a great photographer.

You can be somewhere and see a beautiful scenic overlook, and take the same picture that countless other people take when they stand at the same vantage point. But what if you take the time to open your eyes a little wider and look for some way of changing your vantage point to a more unique perspective, maybe taking the photo framed by the branch of a nearby tree, or from ground level bringing a small flower into the frame. Or maybe it is a great scene but you realize, this would be spectacular scene if you came back at sunrise. Or perhaps a new way of seeing the same scene is to shoot it in a heavy rain storm of in the fog. "Seeing the world" involves going beyond the convenience of just taking a shot, and instead changing angles, coming back later, being willing to LOOK FOR something more than what you presently see.

What's exciting about this group is the fact that we are challenging each other to grow as photographers in a way where we see the world through the eyes of faith. If we apply these same photography principles in seeing the world more broadly, in a way that includes our faith in Christ in our "widened view of the world around us", this can't help but make us more sensitive to those moments where God will speak to us, show us new insights, and we will grow. Our belief is that we will not just grow as photographers. We will grow in our understanding of God. We will grow as persons. And, as we create new photographs that capture this wider-angled view of the world we are seeing, we have the blessing of being able to share our new insights with others by sharing our photographs.
