What is Alpha?

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the validity and relevance of the Christian faith for our lives today. It is a practical introduction to the basics of Christianity with loads of opportunity for debate and discussion. The style of Alpha is informal, friendly and non-pressured. The teaching content for Alpha is found in the book “Questions of Life” by Nicky Gumbel.

Who is Alpha for?

Anyone! Wherever you may be in your faith journey.
Those wanting to investigate Christianity.
New Christians.
Those who feel that they have never really got going as a Christian.
Newcomers to the church.
Those who want to brush-up on the basics.

Everyone’s Invited

People come for different reasons, from different backgrounds, and with different opinions – but at Alpha, those differences only add to the conversation and often lead to greater understanding.

Ask Anything

Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile and all viewpoints are respected.

Real Problems

Life is full of tough time – shaky employment, relationship struggles, kid troubles, and illness. No matter what you are facing, Alpha is a place to ask why – with the freedom to share or just sit back and listen.

Big Questions: God

Is there a God? Why am I here? Who is Jesus? What about other religions? Alpha tackles these and other questions each week. Chances are somebody in your group is wondering the same thing you are.

Building Friendships

Some of the closest most long-lasting friendships have been built on the Alpha course. Alpha friendships get beyond the standard “What is your name?” and “How do you do?” so you can connect on a more personal level. On the weekend away, which is a key part of the Alpha course, you get to know each other even better.

Food & Fun

Alpha isn’t all work. In fact, most of the time it is simply just fun. Sharing a casual meal and hanging out after a long day can be a time to relax and be yourself – no expectations or strings attached.

How Much?

There is no charge for the Alpha course, although donations to offset the cost of meals and literature are always welcome.
